What is Cloud Computing and what does it mean for your business?
Continuing the program of highly
successful events held at Bedford College, there will be another
joint British Computer Society (BCS) and Bedford College evening
lecture on Wednesday, 5 October 2011.
“What is Cloud Computing and what does it mean
for your business?” is the topic of a talk by Ted Shultz, Business
Development Manager, Cloud Services, Microsoft Corporation.
Cloud Computing has been suggested as the next major change
in business IT. It promises the use of IT without the cost of
owning and maintaining the hardware and software
infrastructure. It promises access anytime, anywhere, and
from any device. It promises the use of IT without the
expenses of keeping IT staff. Is this a real revolution in IT
or another technology mumble jumble from the vendors? This
meeting aims to help non-technical persons to learn about the
possibilities today and ask a major vendor about our concerns.
Ted has over
15 years of experience in the telecommunications and IT industry.
He is currently evangelising Microsoft’s Cloud Services to
Microsoft’s partner community in the UK. He previously held
roles within AT&T, Level (3) and Verizon and has a BS in
Accounting and MBA in International Business.
The talk at Bedford College
on Wednesday 5 October begins at 6.30pm and is the latest
in a series of outstanding seminars organised by the computing
department and IT training team for businesses. At the last
event about on-line marketing held in May more
than 200 local business people attended.

2011 is being billed as the ‘year of the cloud’ and cloud
computing is predicted to boost the EU economy over the next 5
years by £645 billion, with the UK and Germany as the biggest
beneficiaries of this growth. Other reports say that cloud is
moving faster than any other ‘next big thing’ and could represent
15% of the total IT services market by 2014. But what does all this
mean to the average British company? Is the hype real? Why should
you take an interest? What are the benefits? How does it apply to
you?
