It all adds up. Manager at Elstow Lower School profits from AAT qualification

Increasingly the staff involved in school accounting need to understand more complex systems and ensure that they are up-to-date with the latest accounting practices such as computerised accounting. This was the driving force behind Mrs Pauline Redpath, School Business Manager at Elstow Lower School enrolling on the part-time Association of Accounting Technicians(AAT) Certificate (Level 2) course at Bedford College.

“I had lots of practical, in school experience, but no theoretical background, so I felt that undertaking the part-time AAT Level 2 course in Accounting would help me to learn the theory behind the practice.”  Pauline said.

Pauline chose Bedford College because she knew it had been rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, a sign that its quality of teaching is excellent.  She added:

“I had previously thought about doing a long distance learning course, but I realised that the style of learning would not suit me – I prefer face-to-face teaching.  Also, I had a good feeling during my interview with the course tutor at Bedford College who was very positive.”

The AAT Level 2 course covers the basic principles of accounting, enables students to experience accounting software and gain insight into accounting business environments.  It includes basic costing and computerised accounting.

Although school accounting is slightly different to that of the business world, the core principles are the same so this course has been of great benefit and certainly helped me in my day-to-day work. In particular I have found the overview of how credits and debits work of great use.”

“I would definitely recommend this course to others who are involved in school accounting.” Pauline said.  “As well as developing your knowledge it will also increase your confidence when dealing with school finances.”
