CN Packaging

Graham Reed of CN Packaging based in Cranfield, Bedfordshire explains why they decided to take on an apprentice:

“Starting a new job is often a daunting experience but for a 16 year old leaving school and working for the first time this can be even harder.  With an apprenticeship scheme the apprentice will receive work experience, a salary and most important training and qualifications.  After the training both the employer and employee will know if the career they have chosen is the right one and are often offered a permanent position.  This is a good scheme for a small business as it takes away the financial risks of taking on a permanent employee.”

“The process was easy with our apprentice liaison office Sarah helping us put an advert together for the position we had and finding the right person.  At times I wondered if we were doing enough to make a difference as an employer, so a little more feedback for the employer would be good.  It would be great to offer Bethany a position at the end of the scheme if everything continues to go as good as it is so far.”

“I would definitely recommend taking on an apprentice to other small business’s and have already spoken to other companies recommending the scheme and would consider taking on another person”
